A custom round carpet created for the grand dining room of a listed property
Deirdre Dyson excels at creating custom carpets which inject a contemporary edge in classical surroundings.
For this project Deirdre faced the challenge of creating a bespoke hand knotted carpet to compliment the distinctive and painstakingly restored, hand painted, ceiling and connect with both the room’s Georgian features and the owners love of contemporary furniture and artworks, including a pair of Allen Jones dancing sculptures.
The solution was a vast circular carpet, 5 metres in diameter, in hand knotted wool, with an ingenious border of alternating blue silk bars. Deirdre’s particular selection of blues reflect the navy blue of the walls, the leather of the Cassina chairs and the sky outside, ultimately all reflected in the custom polished stainless steel table from which the bars appear to emanate and mimic the radiating sun motif above.
The resulting room is a fabulously eclectic space – an exemplar of how a listed property can be the perfect 21st century home. Deirdre’s BLUE BARS carpet is an essential part of achieving this – it grounds and softens what could otherwise be an austere room and creates a connection between the classically proportioned architectural features and the carefully curated contemporary pieces.
