A suite of carpets based on Deirdre Dyson’s GEO SPRING designed with Studio Ashby for a private residence in London
The owners of this stunning contemporary home in South London commissioned award-winning design studio, Studio Ashby to redesign the space and bring cohesiveness to its large open plan footprint.
The light-filled, two storey house was designed in 2004 by the influential architect Terry Farrell and the new scheme allows the building to breath whilst injecting colour and character to create a warm and practical family home.
The key to its success was connecting the vast open plan ground floor. Studio Ashby worked closely with Deirdre Dyson’s to create five different iterations of her GEO SPRING rug including two dramatically long hand tufted carpet runners (17 and 10m!) and three large carpets hand knotted in Tibetan wool and pure silk, in a colour palette inspired by the African Bushveld (the client’s split their time between London and Cape Town)
The hues of the bushveld – South Africa’s distinctive woodland ecoregion, rich in shades of green, blue and russet brown – then carried through in the interiors and providing the perfect backdrop for the owners extensive collection of South African art and photographs.
