Explorations in carpet design
Walking on Art by Lady Deirdre Dyson, explores contemporary carpet design from a practitioner’s viewpoint. A foreword by Professor Sir Christopher Frayling contextualizes fine artist Deirdre Dyson’s award-winning work as a carpet designer within discussions about art and design, and then Dyson herself reflects on her journey to carpet design and long experience of creating exquisite luxury hand knotted carpets. The chapter ‘Techniques’ introduces the traditional methods of Nepalese hand knotting, and how Dyson has manipulated these ancient skills to create stunning effects in wool and silk. ‘Process’ then explores the steps – from inspiration to drawing then making, that lie behind each Deirdre Dyson carpet. These chapters are followed by Dyson’s collections up to 2015, illustrated in full, demonstrating her love of colour and her range of inspirations, from butterflies to sea shells.
Described by the late Sir Terence Conran as “…[a] book that should be treasured by designers of interiors”.
Beautifully produced and hardbound. Published by Thame and Hudson.
