Luxury Rug for a Listed Property: A custom ATTITUDE carpet in a historic home

A custom version of Deirdre Dyson’s ATTITUDE hand knotted wool and silk rug in a Grade II listed property

Our clients acquired this Grade II listed Georgian residence and embarked on a meticulous restoration which now showcases their stunning collection of contemporary furniture including this striking pair of bright orange modular sofas.

The scale of the great hall is breathtaking and to counterpoint this classically proportioned, ornate space our clients envisioned a relaxed, inviting area built around the sofas, in which to lounge, listen to music, and simply enjoy the grandeur around them.

They approached Deirdre Dyson who knew her ATTITUDE rug design would be the perfect means to connect the interior architecture and bold contemporary pieces.

ATTITUDE allowed the gentle introduction of orange in the random silk bars and Deirdre selected cerise, plum and lilac to create a complimentary candy-coloured palette without creating the dreaded ‘matchy matchy’ look.

The clean, modern geometry of the ATTITUDE carpet does something rather elegant in this context: its contemporary lines enter into a quiet dialogue with the classical architecture and creates a seating area that grounds the room, softens its formality, and transforms what might otherwise feel an austere space into a genuinely comfortable and relaxing space. The perfect juxtaposition of the classical and the contemporary.

There is a practical dimension, too, a hard-surfaced hall like this would typically be echoey and visually cold. The deep, lush pile of this hand-knotted carpet absorbs sound beautifully making the listening experience all the richer and the deep Tibetan wool adds luxurious warmth on the marble floor.
