Deirdre Dyson will unveil her new 2024 hand knotted rug collection, titled ‘Graduation’ during Maison et Objet’s exclusive ‘In The City’ event (17 –24 January 2024). The international preview – the first look at her latest collection of nine stunning carpet designs – will be hosted at her Paris gallery (12 Rue des Saints-Péres) in the heart of Paris’ vibrant design quarter, Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
‘Graduation’ Deirdre’s much-anticipated 2024 collection, takes inspiration from the natural world, from autumnal berried hedgerows to tranquil land and seascapes, and this year, is focussed more on the use of colour than formal design. With subtle and soft graduating washes akin to a watercolour painting, artist Deirdre uses her expert eye for colour to stunning effect. The luxurious wool and silk threaded carpets are works of art in themselves, designed to complement and ground any luxurious interior scheme.
‘Concentrating solely on colour, the subtlety and peacefulness of my ‘Graduation’ collection will allow the designs to work seamlessly with any surroundings, just as a soft watercolour painting would. A real departure from my previous ‘Angles collection’, this year I have enjoyed going back to basics, using colour play and wool as my canvas to evoke the beauty of nature’s landscapes.’ says Deirdre Dyson.
The nine unique designs feature Deirdre’s signature tonal grading and integrate fine silk elements that not only add a beautiful haze to the ombre effects but also a luxurious twist to the two-thirds wool creations.
PLUMBERRY features an ombre effect of rich hedgerow hues, reminiscent of damsons, ripening plums and blackberries, and graduating in colour to the deepest purple of sloe berries.
HELIOTROPE transitions from the richest indigo via cerise pink to a deep framboise, creating a delightfully uplifting ombre effect.
Designed as a three-metre runner, TOPAZ is like a tranquil pathway stretching out to sea. Drawing you from warm palest sandy hues through to a deeper wet sand gold bronze, teals and out to cool azure crystal waters.
ASTRAL exudes a moodier seascape and creates a cave like aperture, visiting darker palettes of black to olive that release into warm creamy beiges, overlaid with alternating shades of silken waves.
Finally, to complete the collection, PINK FIZZ, reminiscent of rivulets of pink champagne (pure silks) on cool glass (graded Tibetan wool).
Following the unveiling of ‘Graduation’ at Deirdre’s Paris gallery in St-Germain-des-Prés (17-22 January 2024) the full collection will then be displayed at her London gallery, 554 King’s Road, from the end of January 2024.
