Deirdre Dyson at the Design Centre!
Renowned interiors hub and design destination, the Design Centre at Chelsea Harbour, is just a few minutes walk from our 554 Kings Road gallery so we felt it was the ideal location to showcase one of Deirdre Dyson’s most admired and complex hand knotted rug designs, SLIVERS.
SLIVERS, from the Looking Glass collection, was inspired by overlapping glass orbs which Deirdre drew on to create the graded wool and silk organic shapes in the finished carpet – each is rendered in meticulously graded jewel-like colours resulting in a wonderfully contemporary and eye-catching carpet design.
These offset, radial grades are incredibly complex to achieve – the colour selection has to be absolutely right and then the craftsmanship of our Nepalese comes into play. Deirdre’s clever application of silk to the overlapping areas adds to the luminous, glass-like feel.
SLIVERS has been a firm favourite with clients who have gravitated towards its bold yet inviting colourways and asymmetric forms.
The carpet has been re-created in several custom versions, the most dramatic being this incredible 10m long cut-out runner in shades of reds and rusts selected by Deirdre for maximum impact.
When it came to exhibiting a Deirdre Dyson rug design in the light-filled Design Avenue, SLIVERS was the ideal choice from Deirdre’s vast Design Library.
Our friends at Argile had the perfect colour match for the showcase background paint colour – Astral – an exact match to the deep aubergine featured in the carpet and their Noir de Rome for the ‘loom’ the carpet is displayed on.
We hope to show several of Deirdre’s hand knotted carpet designs at the Design Centre over the coming year so watch this space!
