PLUMAGE RUG COLLECTION LAUNCH PARTY

Sam and Mark from Echlin chat to Deirdre Dyson, Pandora from World of Interiors in conversation with James Dyson

We love revealing Deirdre’s new rug designs at Maison & Objet every January but by contrast, Deirdre’s annual UK collection launch, held here in the intimacy of our Kings Road gallery, is by far the highlight of our year.

The evening gives Deirdre a chance to catch up with valued friends of the brand as well as clients old and new and introduce her carpets in person whilst guests can touch and feel the incredible quality of the finished designs, see the lustre of the silk and the true colours which are always best viewed ‘in the flesh’.

Lady Dyson in front of her limited edition carpet artwork UNBOUND

This year’s collection inspired by the hues and patterns of birds and their feathers, is a riot of colour and contrast and provoked much admiration and discussion.  As did Deirdre’s first carpet artwork, UNBOUND, created in a limited edition of three and intricately handwoven in 32 colours of wool and silk.

UNBOUND was recently included in The Luxury Cave launch event at the Design Museum and was so overwhelmingly well received that Deirdre is now working on another limited-edition wall piece, more details to be revealed soon.

Flowers by Clayton at Strudwick Flowers provided the perfect backdrop to the evening’s festivities.  Deirdre had requested natural arrangements with fluid forms reflecting the designs on display and Clayton fulfilled this brief perfectly, picking up the reds in both HARLEQUIN and UNBOUND on the first floor and the golden and buttery tones of GOLDEN PHEASANT and BURLESQUE on the ground floor.

Bespoke cocktails colour co-ordinated with Deirdre Dyson’s QUILLS rug

This year guests enjoyed lavender cocktails selected by Edison to compliment the purple found in Deirdre’s new QUILLS rug design, Champagne and Dyson wine together with delicious canapes by Aquashard such as mushroom arancini, steak tartare and mini fish and chips.  Guests were extremely well looked after by Aquashard’s John Wiltshire and his team.

The gallery, designed by Architect Timothy Hatton (pictured) comes in to its own at night and the wonderful atmosphere led to a very special evening celebrating another stellar rug collection by Deirdre.

Edison’s Picks from Maison & Objet Hall 8

We love to report back on favourite spots and trends from interiors exhibitions, especially Maison & Objet Paris.

We’ve been regular exhibitors at Maison every January for the past five years launching Deirdre’s new rug collections.

This year we’re showcasing neighbouring stands at our new location in Hall 8, the ‘Forever Signature’ Hall, which featured an array of high-end furniture, china and bedlinen brands.

Edison captured some of the things which caught his eye over the five days.

Practical and Beautiful. The superbly tactile, curves of hand-turned walnut in the sculptural VERTIGO coat hook by Nomon designed by Stefano Bigi

Murano glass brought bang up to date with bold detail and vibrant colours on the Carlo Moretti stand.

Incredible matt black glass vases by Guaxs

The trippy perfection of the Emanuel Ungaro Home stand.

Created by the perfect combination of color, energy and shape, Souk mirrors reflect the influences of overwhelming and visually fascinating Souk markets in northern Africa with its vibrant fringes and earthy colors resembling typical macramé techniques, spotted on the Dooq stand.

Fun gin bottles on the Sieger by Furstenberg stand who employed a Mixologist to create delightful cocktails in their wonderful crystal!

Brand new colour variations and a different take on cut glass in these lamps by Vista Alegre

REINVENTING CLASSICS

Deirdre‘s ribbon designs are enduringly popular – CARNIVALSTREAMER and FALLING RIBBONS never fail to capture people’s imaginations.

These designs are so versatile and lend themselves to any space in the home, the alternate colours on the ribbons create flow and depth and can easily be adapted to suit any scheme.

Deirdre enjoys revisiting signature rug designs and updating colours, which she has done recently with both STREAMER and CARNIVAL and we’re really excited by the results!

Here’s a sneak peak of the new designs hanging with the originals…

A new version of STREAMER with vibrant blue ribbon on the perfect neutral ground.

Our previous sample colourway with broody deep dark red ribbon on a grey ground, a great illustration of colour dramatically altering a design.

New CARNIVAL colourways – a muted, versatile palette which really emphasises the ‘unravelling’ effect.

New and old CARNIVAL colourways side by side.

Both older rugs are now included in our Sample sale or contact us to create your very own bespoke version.

Introducing Chris – Trade Sales Manager

We’re delighted Chris has joined the team here at Deirdre Dyson heading up Trade Sales.

Chris has thrived on creating positive working relationships with both clients and colleagues his entire career – whether managing large enterprises in the high street or latterly smaller, high-end interiors brands in the Chelsea Design Quarter.

Chris not only brings a background in interior and product design but is an award-winning stylist of luxury events and exhibitions, this eye for design coupled with a natural charm and wit makes him the ideal representative for Deirdre Dyson in the UK and beyond.

We had a few questions for Chris:

You’ve been here just over a month Chris, how have you found it?

Settling in nicely and thoroughly enjoying my new position. Apart from the team making me very welcome, the gallery is a place that feels very special. It displays the artwork with maximum effect and easy to view thanks to the sliding walls system. I have also been amazed at the choice of colours available (over 5000). Offering such a bespoke service allows clients to match very specific colours when required.

From the choice of Deirdre Dyson designs, is there a particular favourite that you have and if so, why?

The more I look at Deirdre’s designs, the more I appreciate them but SKYSCAPE from our new Horizons Collection is a definite favourite. The soft, gentle shapes and subtly graded colour palette, creates a wonderful dreamlike appeal.

As a member of CDQ, is there a particular company or showroom within the vicinity that you like or would recommend to others?

I have been a fan of our neighbouring showroom, Haute Deco long before I was working in CDQ. They have an outstanding collection of unusual and beautiful drawer and door hardware. Their designs can transform virtually any piece of furniture or door into a very special piece.

Inspired by Nature – Deirdre Dyson collaborates with Echlin

The latest turn-key residence by visionary design and development studio Echlin is Leverton House – located just moments from Kensington Palace and Gardens in Ossington Street, Notting Hill.

Set behind an attractive period façade this state of the art modern home is a nature-inspired sanctuary in the city.

The parkside location together with a light-filled internal courtyard featuring verdant living walls (a USP of all Echlin developments) floods the interior with light and formed the starting point for the interior design.

An integral part of the interior is a large hand knotted wool and silk version of Deirdre’s FALLING LEAVES carpet.

Deirdre has said of the project:

I was approached by [our Chelsea neighbours] Echlin to design a carpet especially for their new project, Leverton House.  Echlin’s concept was to bring the outside in.

The inspiration for this bespoke version of Falling Leaves came from standing under a Winter tree with branches bending downwards, above and around me…Echlin selected the colours to create airy lightness and to work perfectly with their nature-inspired concept.

Echlin has utilised British designed, natural and hand-crafted materials wherever possible in addition to the highest quality bespoke joinery and fittings throughout the property.

Other brands and designers featured include Tom O’Dell of Odells Studios, Hugh Miller Furniture Studio Haran, Johnston’s of Elgin, Bennett Silk and James Hare, Rachel Vosper and True Grace together with Walpole British Luxury members such as Richard Brendon, Ettinger and Nyetimber, and Brands of Tomorrow  The New Craftsmen with artwork by London based Italian artist Gabriele Cappelli.

Leverton House is currently listed for sale with Knight Frank, further details here
