Introducing Chris – Trade Sales Manager

We’re delighted Chris has joined the team here at Deirdre Dyson heading up Trade Sales.

Chris has thrived on creating positive working relationships with both clients and colleagues his entire career – whether managing large enterprises in the high street or latterly smaller, high-end interiors brands in the Chelsea Design Quarter.

Chris not only brings a background in interior and product design but is an award-winning stylist of luxury events and exhibitions, this eye for design coupled with a natural charm and wit makes him the ideal representative for Deirdre Dyson in the UK and beyond.

We had a few questions for Chris:

You’ve been here just over a month Chris, how have you found it?

Settling in nicely and thoroughly enjoying my new position. Apart from the team making me very welcome, the gallery is a place that feels very special. It displays the artwork with maximum effect and easy to view thanks to the sliding walls system. I have also been amazed at the choice of colours available (over 5000). Offering such a bespoke service allows clients to match very specific colours when required.

From the choice of Deirdre Dyson designs, is there a particular favourite that you have and if so, why?

The more I look at Deirdre’s designs, the more I appreciate them but SKYSCAPE from our new Horizons Collection is a definite favourite. The soft, gentle shapes and subtly graded colour palette, creates a wonderful dreamlike appeal.

As a member of CDQ, is there a particular company or showroom within the vicinity that you like or would recommend to others?

I have been a fan of our neighbouring showroom, Haute Deco long before I was working in CDQ. They have an outstanding collection of unusual and beautiful drawer and door hardware. Their designs can transform virtually any piece of furniture or door into a very special piece.

@DeirdreDysonLLP LDF ‘WINDSWEPT’ COMPETITION exclusive to Instagram

For this year’s London Design Festival, the Chelsea Design Quarter Design District has selected the theme ELEMENTS from which Deirdre has chosen WIND as the inspiration for a bespoke runner to be displayed during the event (16th – 24th) and until the end of September.

Architect of our 554 Kings Road gallery, Timothy Hatton, has loaned some of the wonderful 3D printed leaves produced for his Human Nature installation at Aqua Shard last December which will be displayed with the WINDSWEPT runner and has kindly donated a display box of five 3D-printed leaves for us to give away to one lucky winner.

To enter the competition simply follow us on Instagram @DeirdreDysonLLP, upload a picture that encompasses WINDSWEPT, tag us in the image and use #WINDSWEPT and #LDF17.  The competition will run during the festival period and we’ll post the winning image across social media.

These 3D leaves were sold to raise funds for Sir David Attenborough’s Fauna & Flora International charity and can still be purchased here to support this worthwhile cause.

Full competition terms and conditions here.

Sale Inspiration

In his occasional interiors series Edison creates mood boards based on two carpets reduced in our Summer Sale.

Now that we’re into our sale period I’ve just taken a look at two of the latest designs that have been added to our ex display sale list. I wonder who will buy these gorgeous pieces of art for the floor?

Being bang on trend and both having a timeless appeal, here are two mood boards which take inspiration from the DAWN and FOREST MOSAIC designs.

Mood boards are great tools to help co-ordinate a look, piece together elements of a design or simply help you focus on a colour, theme or mood.

DAWN MOOD BOARD
“FROM CHARTREUSE TO MUSTARD, BOTH COLOURS WORK WELL AGAINST SHADES OF GREY”

L-R: DAWN hand knotted wool and silk carpet, ‘Ocean Mist’ ombre wallpaper by muralwallpaper.co.uk, chartreuse decor living room, Vintage Italian fauteuil, Ligne Roset vase from Heals and set four Orrefor glass vases.

FOREST MOSAIC BOARD
“WITH ELEMENTS OF ART DECO, THINK STRUCTURED GREEN FORMS WITH A TOUCH OF LUXURY”.

L-R: FOREST MOSAIC hand knotted wool and silk carpet, original Art Deco interior and furnishings, 1930s palm floor lamp, Ercol chairs, House of Hackney x Jeremy Scott for Puma trainers and original Lalique vase from amara.com £11,900.

Deirdre Dyson VISTA carpet collection launches at Maison et Objet Paris

Deirdre Dyson conjures up nature’s transient beauty with launch of Vista Collection

A reflection of the unravelling of time itself; the skeleton of a MAPLE and the shadow of its memory, the peeling skin of a silver birch and tumbling stones in a rushing brook, Deirdre Dyson returns to the international stage with the launch of her striking new VISTA Collection at Maison & Objet Paris (January 20-24, 2017 – Hall 7 Stand H116).  Stimulated by nature’s ephemeral splendour, the nine new carpet designs showcase Deirdre’s signature contemporary style.

“My Vista Collection is inspired by glimpses and observations taken on walks in the countryside – standing under trees with falling leaves, enchanted by bulrushes in still water and exquisite bright green water lilies floating above a mysterious deep, dark pond.  I like to use colour grading techniques and strong and subtle tonal contrasts to create optical illusions, highlighting nature’s dramatic and transient beauty.  The collection is intended to inspire clients to commission their own piece of art for the floor.

Deirdre Dyson’s training in fine art is apparent in her masterful use of colour across the collection.  In BULRUSHES, the gradual change in hue and precise contrast in light and shade create the illusion of reflection on still water to beautiful effect.  Similarly, the tonal change in LILY POND emphasises the depth of the pond and contrasts effectively with the brightness of the lily pads – a circular silhouette makes this a true representation of the natural world. Deirdre’s characteristic wit is exemplified in UNRAVEL, drawing on the core inspiration of real landscapes, whilst depicting the concept of unravelling threads, naturally colour-graded to perfection.

Each Deirdre Dyson carpet is totally bespoke and can be fitted or free-standing.  Customers can take inspiration from Deirdre’s ideas, but apply their own personal touch through colour, shape, size and design elements.  Deirdre’ Dyson makes carpets to suit different budgets and applications.  They can be hand-knotted by Tibetan experts, practiced in this ancient skill, who use Chinese or Indian silk and the finest Tibetan wool.  Or they can be hand-tufted in Scotland or Yorkshire, from the best quality New Zealand wool.
