NEW COLLECTION LANDING AT MAISON!

We can’t wait to reveal the new rug designs Deirdre Dyson has created for her 2019 PLUMAGE collection.

With an intuitive eye for colour, Deirdre cleverly combines the bright shades (violet blues, cherry red, slate blue, black) and abstract markings of a pretty male sea duck for her HARLEQUIN design.

EAGLE  (pictured) is an impressive 3.4 metres wide, depicting the magnificent wing span of this majestic bird – the large scale allows Deirdre to include intricate feathery detail and create a spectacular three-dimensional effect through directional colour grading.

Other designs, such as the rich colour palette of GOLDEN PHEASANT, accurately reflects the beautiful tones of this quintessential British bird.

Deirdre’s practice as a fine artist allows her to expertly combine colours to create a beautiful composition that will enhance any surface and interior, as she skillfully captures the shimmer of the natural oils of a feather through the use of gorgeous silk against a luxurious wool background.

Deirdre says:

In this collection I have delved deep into the feathers of pheasants and abstracted designs of ducks.  I singled out some feathers and enfolded carpets with others.  Together they make a varied collection of colourful drama and soft luxury.  In creating them, our brilliant craftspeople have succeeded with the most difficult technical challenges I have ever set them.”

Be the first to see the new collection unveiled on 18 January 2019 at the prestigious Maison et Objet interiors exhibition in Paris, in Hall 8 ‘Forever Signature’, stand A32.

REINVENTING CLASSICS

Deirdre‘s ribbon designs are enduringly popular – CARNIVALSTREAMER and FALLING RIBBONS never fail to capture people’s imaginations.

These designs are so versatile and lend themselves to any space in the home, the alternate colours on the ribbons create flow and depth and can easily be adapted to suit any scheme.

Deirdre enjoys revisiting signature rug designs and updating colours, which she has done recently with both STREAMER and CARNIVAL and we’re really excited by the results!

Here’s a sneak peak of the new designs hanging with the originals…

A new version of STREAMER with vibrant blue ribbon on the perfect neutral ground.

Our previous sample colourway with broody deep dark red ribbon on a grey ground, a great illustration of colour dramatically altering a design.

New CARNIVAL colourways – a muted, versatile palette which really emphasises the ‘unravelling’ effect.

New and old CARNIVAL colourways side by side.

Both older rugs are now included in our Sample sale or contact us to create your very own bespoke version.

INSPIRE ME SEA

With the official start of summer less than a month away, nothing comes to mind more than blue skies, the shimmer of sun on the ocean waves, fun times by the sea or having a relaxing, cool beverage al fresco whilst people watching.

This years’ collection certainly has designs and colours that nod towards the summer season. In particular, SEASCAPE captures the scale and movement of the shoreline with the ‘Cote de Azur’ never feeling too far away.

With any graded design, you have a wider choice of colours to draw from.  SEASCAPE combines light green/mustard tones with shades of teals, greys and darker blue hues.

Whether you are using a single colour throughout, combining several colours together or just using one solid colour for a feature wall, you can’t go too far wrong in making a statement.

The following mood boards use our SEASCAPE design, showing us how we can adapt it for different spaces within our home. I’ve taken all inspiration from the carpet colours and by combining various products; have created three different looks.

Using the large-scale SEASCAPE (a whopping 2.35m x 7m), this size would only be suitable for the larger home and open plan living. Think penthouse warehouse, lounge area one end, dining area the other.

Pair a mustard leather sofa with some velvet and linen chairs and softer fabric window treatments to maximize light and texture. Velvet fabrics work best at adding tonal depth, such as these cushions from Kit Miles. Add playful colour combinations in larger spaces. These poufs from OPUMO do just that.  A few accent accessories such as these ceramic yellow vases, work well with green plants and inject a splash of juicy sun colour into any room. A dark blue table set with grey chairs or benches will provide ample dining space and appear silhouetted against a darker floor treatment.

The SEASCAPE runner would work well in a small or large entrance/hallway.

For smaller spaces, keep your walls light in colour and apply darker palettes to furniture and small features.

Combine vintage and modern pieces for a playful finish. Keep furniture narrow and a tad mix-matched for visual interest. These narrow and crude benches work well for small spaces and create seating and an area for shoes, bags or a place to read the post. Make a feature of coats and hats by adding coloured hooks at different heights, styles and finishes.

For the larger entrance hall, you can afford to go moody and darker on wall colour. The side board from Orchid combined with Wenlock round mirrors would certainly add a touch of style. Add to that some stunning vintage black and gold lamps and a few ceramic vases for additional visual impact. It’s about understated elegance, just like these black and gold hooks, avoiding excessive or highly decorative ornamentation. Darker spaces work well with dark, silhouetted furniture. The Bold chair by Moustache does just that and adds a twist and touch of understated modernity.

Sale Inspiration

In his occasional interiors series Edison creates mood boards based on two carpets reduced in our Summer Sale.

Now that we’re into our sale period I’ve just taken a look at two of the latest designs that have been added to our ex display sale list. I wonder who will buy these gorgeous pieces of art for the floor?

Being bang on trend and both having a timeless appeal, here are two mood boards which take inspiration from the DAWN and FOREST MOSAIC designs.

Mood boards are great tools to help co-ordinate a look, piece together elements of a design or simply help you focus on a colour, theme or mood.

DAWN MOOD BOARD

L-R: DAWN hand knotted wool and silk carpet, ‘Ocean Mist’ ombre wallpaper by muralwallpaper.co.uk, chartreuse decor living room, Vintage Italian fauteuil, Ligne Roset vase from Heals and set four Orrefor glass vases.

FOREST MOSAIC BOARD
“WITH ELEMENTS OF ART DECO, THINK STRUCTURED GREEN FORMS WITH A TOUCH OF LUXURY”.

L-R: FOREST MOSAIC hand knotted wool and silk carpet, original Art Deco interior and furnishings, 1930s palm floor lamp, Ercol chairs, House of Hackney x Jeremy Scott for Puma trainers and original Lalique vase from amara.com £11,900.
